The Danish energy agency has published an online tool to evaluate the PV potential of roofs nationwide. The Sologvindinfo.DK website shows the average sunlight for every roof surface and helps the owners to determine which areas of the roofs get the greatest solar radiation.

“Building owners receive a new tool that quickly and easily determines where you can start your detailed examination of a solar cell project most advantageously,” said Stig Uffe Pedersen, deputy general director of the agency. “This makes it easier to find out where solar cells contribute most effectively to the green transition on the roof.”

The tool is based on a height model that was created from a laser scan carried out by aircraft. It also uses building and residential and housing data from the national register as well as meteorological information, shadows, roof slopes and orientation. However, the tool does not take into account the local municipal regulations.

According to Pedersen, the model does not evaluate the profitability of a certain solar project such as the energy consumption of the building, capacity -bearing capacity or access to the power grid and existing facilities. “These factors must be examined more in more detail before a certain project can be assessed,” he added.

The agency said that the Dach PV is currently about a third of Denmark's solar capacity. The total amount of the installed capacity on the roof has tripled since 2020, mainly due to the introduction of electric vehicles and heat pumps.
