After the owners bought a house on half a hectare block in Tuckombil, NSW, the owners were interested in using the extensive and yet unruly landscape.
The location was a mixture of overgrown subtropical gardens and bare lawn areas, with coffee trees that were scattered and ran a high woody hedge to their house.
“This gave the surrounding area of the house a limited feeling when it dealt with the rest of the property and restricted access to the gardens,” says Thomas Streat, the founder of Streat capes.
His team was busy transforming the property into an “exciting local garden” that corresponded to the surrounding Buschlanda and Rolling Hills.
“Since I was such a large space, I wanted to keep things as informally as possible with a few architectural elements to combine the garden with the interactive rooms,” says Thomas.
He saw Bushwalking Trails as a reference and presented the landscape as a network of paths that opened up for functional zones that were designed with the family.
Now the hike through the garden is almost reminiscent of a national park. Rows of organic -looking sandstone levels are with masses of lined Pennisetum alopecuroides (Ornamental local grass) and basalt rock boulders.
Brigelsteine crunches under your feet while you are through the different rooms. There is a “park” with a wood with wood on which the children can play, an open courtyard, grass -covered lawn that merges into the hill, and a fireplace with a sculptural star that was built from concrete.
“The design for this room came together quickly and was inspired by campfire evenings,” added Thomas.
'The fireplace was particularly inspired by a campsite in the Dorrigo National Park. The rock coat, which I love, gives the fire such a beautiful, charred frame and reflects the heat back to them. '
Greville robust (Seidige oak) Trees and floor covers were also used to attract nectar -loving birds and insects in order to improve the local ecosystem and at the same time deliver color shoes in the sea of mobile grasses.
The resulting garden is full of beautiful vignettes with a can of Dry Creek -Bettschwalken, which lead the precipitation from the contours of the country – to ensure that the planting can withstand the strong rainfall of the northern rivers.
But the landscape design is really alive with activities of the owners who explore and play countless hours in their own garden.
