Once a year we take a look into the future here H&G as Pinterest unveils its Pinterest Predicts trends report, giving us insight into all the trends we'll be coveting over the next year.
And according to their Crystal Ball Consulting experts, 2025 is shaping up to be a big and bold year. The thought leaders behind the platform have set the tone for what's to come in the coming year when it comes to interior design trends, style and home decor.
From cherries to castles (yes, you read that right), these are the five standout trends we're looking forward to seeing in our homes in 2025.
Pinterest's predicted trends will be big news in 2025
Last year, Pinterest predicted some of our most popular and viral trends, from Cafecore to Kitschen, Chrome to Western. They really had their sights set on some of the most playful aesthetics to take over 2024.
When they sent us their annual report for 2025, we took note of this. Here's what they had to say.
1. Cherry Coded
The color story of 2025 is likely to be cherry red. And we can't say we're surprised. Echoing the unexpected red theory that sent the internet into a frenzy this year, Pinterest suggests that by 2025 we'll be seeing this tart hue in everything from our makeup to menus to mood boards.
The cherry red color trend is nothing new, in fact our Paint & Color expert Emily reported on it earlier this year. According to Pinterest, this dark, sweet and bright red is set to be a popular bedroom color trend next year, with searches for “cherry bedroom” already up 100%, while “dark cherry red” has an even larger following, with searches at 235%.
In contrast to the deep, rich burgundy tones of recent seasons, you'll see this more confidently on high-gloss painted surfaces with playful accents like furniture colors and hardware, as well as smaller accessories like lighting and decor.
2. Surreal Soirees
Are you looking for inspiration for your New Year's Eve event? According to Pinterest, it's time to incorporate surrealism and a sense of playfulness into your table design.
Think “curvy candlesticks, fantastic flowers and centerpieces that defy gravity.” Searches for “Salvador Dali aesthetic” (up 40%) and “dinner party table decorations” are already on the rise, which is up 55% alongside “modern surrealism.”
We expect chrome to be an even bigger news in table decor next year, evolving from softer gold tones to something with a more contemporary edge. This trend is about creating moments of surprise and joy in your entertaining to delight your guests.
3. Castlecore
We've heard terms like “Whimsigoth” (a cozier take on Gothic) thrown around this year with the rise of Gothic interior design on the rise, but “Castlecore” pushes that narrative a little further.
Inspired by the splendor of medieval castles and old-world charm, this aesthetic combines dramatic finishes and historical references to create interiors that are both majestic and slightly atmospheric. Think wrought iron lighting, tapestries, carved furniture, chainmail-inspired decor, and luxurious fabrics like velvet and brocade.
“Medievalcore” will be another big term (searches are already up 110% on Pinterest), while early adopters are already moving forward with their research and also looking at “castle house plans” on the platform.
4. Primary game
“In 2025, everyone will let their inner child shine,” says the Pinterest trend report, alluding to the fact that next year will be a more playful year.
This is evident in home design in fun accents and interior design tweaks like contrasting colored trim (up 85%), wall and door murals, and anything hand-painted. It's time to start DIY.
“This movement represents a DIY ethos, encouraging people to reuse and recycle furniture and transform the ordinary into the extraordinary – which is at the core of what we do,” explains Tom Revill, creative director of Plank hardware who recommends upcycling old and used pieces and giving them a playful, fresh look. “The approach combines sustainability with self-expression, making it ideal for both budget-conscious decorators and those looking for unique pieces.”
5. Mix and maximalist
Maximalist decor has been a big trend for a while now, encompassing eclectic homes that are bursting with more-is-more personality.
This trend relies on a mix of colors, patterns, textures, and styles and is more of a curated chaos, unlike traditional maximalism, which can seem a bit overwhelming. The big aesthetic is “eclectic maximalism,” which saw a 215% increase in searches, and “vintage maximalism,” which saw a 260% increase.
Focus on harmoniously combining unexpected elements such as contrasting prints, eclectic furniture and a mix of old and new from vintage and contemporary decor. It's more-is-more with a little curation and restraint.
It seems like 2025 will be the year of storytelling. Whether you're drawn to the bold vibrancy of Cherry Coded, the whimsy of Surreal Soirees, the drama of Castlecore, the joy of Primary Play, or the curated chaos of Mix and Maximalism, these trends offer something for everyone. Which is your favorite?
