Ambience, wellness and creation of a house: new trends in senior living communities

The United States are faced with a growing aging population. According to the US Census Bureau, the population, aged 85 or more years, will be projected from 6.7 million in 2020 to 14.4 million to 2040 and by 2050 to 18.6 million. Senior Living Communities are preparing for this demand, but sales projections can not only be bound to an increasing population. Since the operators want to diversify their sources of income, the increase in active aging adults has meant that senior living communities concentrated more on wellness and lifestyle in addition to maintaining.

The Aarp Home survey and the Community Preferences shows that 77% of adults aged 50 or more hope that they can spend the rest of their lives in their own houses. But realistically, this is not possible for many. Senior Living Communities that create an environment that meets the needs of these active but aging population and are successful for competition.

How can Senior Living Communities appear and not only address an aging population, but also to an active population? Below I outline 3 important tips.

  1. It's all about ambience. How people feel when they visit their community will determine whether they want to return. The creation of an inviting lobby room, which feels more like a high-end hotel than a healthcare system, is the key to creating an inviting environment. Dining areas that feel more like restaurants compared to Cafeterias ensure that visiting potential residents are looking forward to enjoying future meals in the community. Common areas that are beautifully furnished ensure that the residents feel like moving in luxury apartments. The municipalities that keep up to date in the trends in decor, colors, furniture and amenities will not only increase the sources of income because of an increasing population, but also by becoming a desirable place for aging adults.
