In a soulful California beach house of a photographer

To achieve this effect, Johnson expected that it was only decorated a bit here and set up there. “But when I worked with Lauren, we had to make some effective changes to bring the vision to life,” says the homeowner. This included peeling out the ceilings in order to clear the natural wood, to install warm wooden cabin and add texture with a patinated copper and rich bluestone. “The design of this house was deeply influenced by its surroundings,” says Garrett, who created a palette of structured bed linen, woven rattans and soft Seafoam green to catch the coastal spirit and work with Requiem builders for execution. “The vision was to create the ultimate beach house – a retreat that feels both relaxed and inviting, in which Daisy seamlessly goes from the orientation of lively meetings with friends and family to a quiet loneliness after a long day by the sea.”

The living room is a warm, cozy oasis that frames the view. The Funghi lantern by Charlap Hyman & Herrero, which was hand painted by the artist Pilar Almon, shines like an orange-colored moon and in the 1970s throws the French Shogun couch table from Roger Capron and the Vintage Tuareg mat from North Africa. The designer Lauren Garrett put an Aubusson tapestry from the 16th century from her own boutique gallery as a backdrop for the individual sofa. “These thoughtful contrasts – between the old and new, brave and reserved – have reflected Daisy's adventurous and creative spirit and clearly make the home,” says the interior designer.

Everyone who knows Johnson knows that his home is a constantly developing cabinet with curiosities, a shrine for memory of happy moments that have passed. “I love to accept small treasures when I travel, whether it is the beautiful ceramic cup that I have brought back from India or the year playboy Magazine I found on a road trip in Utah with Bo Derek and an Orang -utan on the cover, ”she ponderes. There are also other innovations, such as the little Silver Box that she picked up in Colorado and is filled with photographs from her first road trip with her partner who sits alongside a book by Duane Michals on the coffee table – an artist who accuses her of triggering her love for photography.

On the shelf next to their documents there are delicate white shells that were saved from the beach by her partner's mother. “There is also the collection of drawings by my best friend Katie Schecter, an incredibly talented artist and musician. I convinced you to sell me a few of your personal drawings, and now you hang in my hallway where I come to you every morning, ”says Johnson with a smile. All in all, the house is a collection of memories that reflect the contours of your life. As she puts it: “I always believed that a house is only a structure until they fill it with parts of themselves.”
