Architectural firm ODP Architects has broken ground on the 56-story Villa Miami skyscraper in Miami, which will be encased in an “exoskeleton reminiscent of a faceted diamond” and topped with a helipad.
Villa Miami has an approved height of 650 feet (198 meters) and is being built in the East Edgewater neighborhood of Miami.
It will include 70 apartments, as well as amenities such as a pool deck, spa, members' and yacht club, dock, ground-floor restaurant and rooftop helipad.
“With waterfront homes in the sky, adorned with bronze and anchored by a helipad above and a dock below, this extraordinary residential complex is a beacon of opulence and exclusivity,” said ODP Architects.
Renderings of the skyscraper show a tower with a tapered base encased in a façade of glass, concrete and copper metal. The copper soffits run along the perimeter of the tower, extending slightly beyond its top while forming extensive triangles at the base.
Glass terraces and cladding fill the remaining facade, with beveled corners extending through the copper surround.
According to ODP Architects, the tower's copper “exoskeleton” and faceted glass facade were inspired by “the interplay of light on water” in neighboring Biscayne Bay.
“The architectural design of Villa Miami draws inspiration from the captivating interplay of light on the water and the tranquil tranquility of the adjacent bay,” the studio said.
“The project features a striking geometric facade. To emphasize this design, an exoskeleton is introduced, reminiscent of a faceted diamond or a precious piece of jewelry. This exoskeleton serves as a set of prongs that elegantly enclose and support the glass shape.”
At the base of the tower, geometric glass panels indicate more “active” areas such as the restaurants and members’ club, which span levels two through five.
The interior plasterwork features a palette of wood, “exquisite stone,” metal and predominantly white walls throughout the residences.
“These elements combine to create an atmosphere of sophisticated elegance and unparalleled sophistication,” the team said.
According to developers Terra, One Thousand Group and restaurateur Major Food Group, Villa Miami will offer an “unparalleled” experience in “service, cuisine and design.”
“Our thesis for Villa Miami combines world-class design, culinary excellence and the highest standards of living,” said David Martin, CEO of Terra. “This project enhances the luxury condominium market while adopting a low-density approach that increases exclusivity.”
The tower is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
Recently, Terra collaborated with Arquitectonica to complete the “tallest skyscraper in Miami Beach,” and Dezeen rounded up several other skyscrapers set to be completed in the city.
