The design studio Ménard Dworkind, based in Montreal, has ended a residence enclosed in Cedar, which envelops its residents into the calm ambience of a quebec forest. The residence of 280 square meters (3,000 square meters) was completed in 2024 and is located at the foot of a hill within Quartier 8 development in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.

“A main focus on the orientation and selection of the maximization and minimization of the glazing as well as a careful material selection and strategic spatial arrangements helps the home to promote this strong connection to nature and at the same time offer a warm, open and functional living environment,” said the co -founder of Ménard DWorkind (MRDK) David Dorkind.

The house consists of a number of staggered volumes, each differentiated by various Exterior covering materials, which gives it the appearance of asymmetrically stacked boxes. From the northern approach, the structure with minimal openings appears largely closed, with priority prioritizing priority and heat stops in the winter months.

Visitors will arrive through the gravel driveway, which leads to a threshold in a western carport that includes the main house and the storage room. A zigzag-shaped corner extends into the carport and separates the entrance from a path that leads through the house to the family areas. The informal entry is neatly integrated into an inner corner, in which a lower lower form of a rectangular upper volume, which is decorated with white cedar shingles, corresponds properly into an inner corner, together with a short garden wall made of board-shaped concrete. “This interplay of materials creates a dynamic facade that is resonance with the surrounding forest,” said the team.

The larch parking track and ceiling materials extend seamlessly into the front entrance and switch to a compact mud room. This space then opens up to an area with double heights, which includes life, dining and kitchen rooms and promotes a feeling of openness and connectivity in the heart of the house. In the kitchen, a pantry is cleverly hidden behind a sliding picture and a closet and offers memory for small devices and at the same time stores a clean, clear look.

A spacious, written off veranda extends over the east side of the house, protected by the overhanging second floor. The veranda serves as an additional dining and living area and is protected from insects and is designed in such a way that it captures morning light. From the veranda you can access a square pool deck on the south side of the house, where a double -sided fireplace along the outer facade generates a matt column.

The west side of the house has a private suite in which a basic room, a bath, a laundry and a fitness room are designed for the residents of aging residents. This suite opens to a protected triangular veranda. A data protection wall bends outwards to provide a shadow for an outer shower area, which is further shielded by a large boulder that was discovered during the excavation of the house. On the upper level, part of the hall is devoted to a cozy reading locomotive with a floor and covering bookshelf and a day bed that offers a view over the living room with two height. At this level there are also three more bedrooms and two bathrooms.

“In the entire interior, the material palette reflects the outer surfaces. A harmonious mix of larch wood, dark and light pine veneer, white walls and lime wash creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. This coherent selection of materials increases the connection between the interiors of the house and its natural environment, ”concluded the team.
