Hugh Francis Schick (1933-2025) - Lebbtown

Hugh F. Schick, 92 years old, left this world peacefully on April 30, 2025 after led a full life that was led by the incessant laughter, the rewards of a close family, relentless personal drive and professional success.

Hugh Francis Schick, a Valentine's Day, was born on February 14, 1933 in Hamburg, NY, the youngest of three children who were born Joseph Francis and Marcella Slater Schick. The family weathered the global economic crisis until a livelihood accident took his father when Hugh was only two years old. Marcella and her children grew up by a single mother in a time before the women's movement to define the meaning of “Schick Strong”.

Hugh described “Handsome” and worked almost all his life. His first job with only five years was the sale The Saturday evening post Door to door and a customer was five miles from home. As a violent competitor from the start, Hugh won the “best seller” this year and set a personal standard of excellence, which he would maintain for the rest of his life.

After graduating from the Hamburg High School, Hugh Hitchhhik at Bowling Green University received a full football scholarship. There he promised Delta Tau Delta fraternity and acquired his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, who supported himself with part-time jobs, including handmainters for beer money.

He proudly entered the US Army and rose to the rank of a first lieutenant before he received an honorable discharge. Hugh was a lifelong patriot who was deeply grateful for the freedom and possibilities of the United States – freedoms with which he made his own success.

Hugh started his advertising career together with the then copy-ritere author Edward D.. Eddie and Mrs. Patricia introduced Hugh Nancy Holly, the love of his life. Together, Hugh and Nancy moved to New York City and then to East Brunswick, New Jersey, where they got three children, three German short hair hands and two cats and shared 63 beautiful years of marriage.

With Nancy as his biggest fan, Hugh established himself as a noticeable creative in the Madison Avenue during the Golden era of advertising in the 1960s and 1970s. It was the creative spirit for numerous legendary brand campaigns in various industries: outdoor sports (Garcia, Savage Arms), Automotive (Michelin), drinks (bass ale, Heineken), travel and currency exchange (Thomas Cook) and much more. He was even the face of Heineken beer ads in the 60s and 70s. His celebrated Orrefors Crystal Advertisement remains in Kleppner's advertising book process, a textbook that is still used in the university classrooms. His creativity was limitless in all media, including architecture, landscape design, watercolor painting, illustration and much more.

Hugh was a real nature director and was an enthusiastic hunter and accomplished fly fisherman. He spent countless weekends to throw a gray wolf that flies through the legendary beaver and willowemoc currents, and explored legendary waters in Sweden, Canada, Newfoundland and over the American west. He was relentless – never satisfied, never finished – and perfected what others considered a championship. Whether his casting in the back yard or his accuracy is refined in the basement, Hugh's pursuit of excellence was steadfast. He believed in precision, preparation and passion.

While we mourn for Hugh on this earth, we cheerfully celebrate a life life.
