This month there are two options for planning in the city of McCandless, including the application for the upcoming celebration for the 175th anniversary and participation in one day of open house in the city's parks on June 19.
The residents have time to submit applications until June 15 to be part of the committee to plan the 175th anniversary of McCandless, which will take place in 2026.
“The McCandless175 Committee will plan, plan, advertise and implement fundraisers for memory of this significant occasion for this significant reason,” said Abby Lucostic, director of parks and relaxation. “We are looking for community members who represent a number of interests and organizations of the community.”
The council members will review and select candidates for the board.
“The 175th anniversary is an exciting time for the community to celebrate our history and think about where our future will lead us. We are pleased to expand the community offers in the course of the year.
In addition, an open day in the city's Master Plan Park will take place on 7 to 7.30 p.m. in the Pavilion in Devlin Park, which is located behind the town hall on the Grubbs Road.
The meeting is part of the city's ongoing comprehensive parking master process.
In 2024, McCandless Pashek+MTR, a landscape planning company based in Pittsburgh, stopped developing master location plans for the five community parks and analyzing existing and future connections, programs and future Green Space initiatives according to Lucostic.
“The development of master plans for the existing and future parks of the city is about understanding the locations, the needs and wishes of the community as well as the capacity and ability of the city and its partners,” said Lucostic.
Stations are set up to discuss the topics of connections, programs and input on existing and future parking initiatives.
“Public commitment is an essential part of the planning process because it helps us to answer three main questions: 'Where are we now? Where do we want to be? And how do we get there?' She said.
In this parking process, the participation of the public was received by community events such as street cleaning in April and the Easter egg hunt. A questionnaire survey in the municipality was open from February to April, and the pension committees were available in the town hall lobby, said Lucostic.
“A common topic that we heard from the residents is that you want to have a voice in the future of our parking system. The best way to do this is to take part in the open day on June 19,” said Schwend. “Visit the city council, the administration and the professional consultants who collect all the information we can to ensure that future offers are what people want and need.”
All age groups are cordially invited and slight refreshments are provided.
