Pantone announces PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse as Color of the Year 2025

Pantone has unveiled PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse as its 2025 Color of the Year, a rich and warming brown that conveys comfort and enjoyment. The announcement was made today at a world-first event at lastminute.com's London Eye, which was illuminated in the color for the occasion.

Described by Pantone as a “soft brown with a sensual and comforting warmth,” Mocha Mousse reflects a cultural shift toward everyday joys and an emphasis on harmony with nature. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, emphasized the color's dual appeal.

“Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence,” said Eiseman. “PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is sophisticated and lush, but at the same time an unpretentious classic. It expands our perception of brown tones from humble and down-to-earth to ambitious and luxurious. With subtle elegance and earthy sophistication, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse presents a discreet and tasteful touch of glamour. PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse is a tasteful shade of brown that envelops us in its sensual warmth.”

The color is intended to balance modernity with timeless beauty and symbolize both comfort and subtle glamour.

Pantone has planned a global celebration of its 26th Color of the Year with events and experiences in cities including New York, London, Shanghai and Mumbai. The London Eye exhibition is the first stop on this international tour and features a dramatic visual display of mocha mousse lighting up the skyline.

Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, emphasized the broader cultural significance of the selection:

“The eternal search for harmony permeates every aspect of our lives, including our relationships, our work, our social connections and the natural environments that surround us. Harmony brings feelings of contentment, inspires a positive state of inner peace, calm and balance, and ensures that we are in harmony with the world around us. “Harmony embraces a culture of connection and unity and the synthesis of our mental, spiritual and physical well-being,” Pressman said.

Cross-industry applications

Mocha Mousse is expected to impact a range of industries, from fashion and beauty to home decor and multimedia design:

  • Fashion and accessories: The versatility of the color allows it to transition between rich, neutral fabrics like leather and cashmere and lighter, flowy fabrics like chiffon and satin.
  • Hair and Beauty: Its warm tones suit different skin tones and adapt to the trends of minimalist, organic beauty.
  • Home decoration: Mocha Mousse provides a sophisticated yet earthy base for interiors and pairs well with natural materials such as wood, stone and wicker.
  • Packaging and design: With its tactile appeal, Mocha Mousse is reminiscent of the richness of chocolate and coffee, making it ideal for products that emphasize natural ingredients or wellness.

Pantone's enduring cultural influence

The public can further explore Mocha Mousse and its applications in the Pantone Holiday Color Showcase, launching internationally throughout December.
