For new EV chargers who support the vehicle fleet of a trust and a solar baldachin in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), financial means were secured to reduce energy costs and reduce emissions.

The NHS Trust (Sath) of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital also applied for the building permit for a solar tachino for the parking lot in the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

All systems are part of the trust vision of saving 1 million pounds per year in energy costs and carbon emissions to reduce more than 3,000 tons. This means that savings can be redirected to the frontline supply and the experience of our patients and colleagues can improve.

Work started installing nine electric vehicle fee points at the locations of the trust to support its EV fleet after the Ministry of Transport awarded 35,000 GBP. It is to be completed in December 2025.

In accordance with the NHS NET NULL transport strategy, NHS fleet vehicles will be EV by 2027 and this financing supports the new pool vehicles of the trust.

The trust was also successful in securing the GB energy financing for a solar park park at RSH. It will be located in parking lot and will produce renewable energies to reduce energy bills.

Nexus group, which manages the parking spaces of the trust, and the team of the Facilities team will work together on the project, which is scheduled to begin in December.

These programs are secured for various green projects in addition to 17 million GBP financial means. The aim is to make patients and employees accessible by improving the air quality, reducing the effects on the environment and promoting healthier and more sustainable care practices – which will ultimately lead to better patient results.

The work has started at a new energy center in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, whereby the current aging heating system is replaced and improved by modern and sustainable energy sources. Further measures for energy saving include solar collectors, improvements in roof and piping and lying systems with low energy.

Sath also celebrates the finalist for the category “Incayn Net Zero at the prestigious HSJ Awards 2025), which will take place in November 2025.

Inese Robotham, deputy managing director and chairman of the Climate Group of the Trust, said: “With great teamwork and the full introduction of our sustainability goals, employees are working hard to introduce systems to reduce our CO2 footprint, reduce costs and deliver more sustainable health facilities.”
