Surrey Hills signs will spend 75 years of "weather agent"

Surrey Hills National Landscape says that his new motorway signs will spend the next 75 years “to survive beautifully over time”.

They were financed by the government to increase the profile of the status change from Surrey Hills in 2023 to a national landscape – together with all other areas with outstanding natural beauty.

Inspired by South Downs National Park Signs, the steel signs with an Acorn Seed Pod, the Surrey Hills -Logo designed by sculptor Walter Bailey.

A spokesman for the site said: “You will replace the old Surrey Hills signs with Corten Steel, so that you will survive wonderfully for the next 75 years and over time just like the landscape you represent.”

The national landscape of Surrey Hills, which extends from Graywood to Oxted, is one of 46 nationally protected landscapes in Great Britain that have the same landscape status and the same protection for a national park.

Rob Fairbanks, director of the National Landscape of Surrey Hills, said: “Many thanks to everyone who is involved in bringing these signs to life, and to colleagues from the Surrey County Council for their support, including her chairman Tim Hall, who presented the first sign on site.”
