You can't be married to real estate without learning the little ins and outs that are most impactful when selling a home. Often, curb appeal and entryways get the most airtime (considering the impact of the all-important first impression), but Egypt Sherrod shines a light on the bedroom.
The HGTV realtor and interior designer has an eye for both the aesthetics and the features that sell a home — starting with the right color ideas for the bedroom. In this room, the colors you choose will influence the quality of your sleep and therefore your general well-being. So why take a risk? Sherrod encourages us to stick to tried-and-true blues and neutrals because, as she says, they're popular for a reason.
“Bedrooms are very personal spaces. Everyone has their favorite tones or color combinations that make them feel at home and comfortable. For me there is no right or wrong when it comes to the color combinations you choose. However, I will say that some of them are among the most popular and I will explain it for a reason,” she shares in an exclusive interview with H&G.
“The most popular are often shades of blue, gray and beige – and when you think about all those colors and lay them out, what do you remember?” “It reminds you of the beach, it reminds you of the sea, it reminds you of serenity.”
“I'm a real estate agent, so I pay attention to things that might seem strange to others.” We pay attention to colors in rooms because even if I photograph them and put them online, my client tells me, “Hey, that's how I want to feel.” When I'm in the room, I know what color palettes I can choose from. Even if they say they want it to be moodier. “I could go with a darker shade of blue, a darker green or gray,” says Sherrod.
“We don't usually put bright colors like red or orange in the bedroom because that's the exact opposite of how you want to feel when you're trying to fall asleep.” However, I would say again that there is no right and wrong. I don't want to tell anyone how to decorate their room if they know how they want to feel. But for me, if you want peace, serenity and relaxation, you have to create an environment that reflects that aesthetically.”
Grays, neutrals, and blues are the perfect place to start, but if those colors don't appeal to you, Sherrod encourages you to make memories from the places you love most. This will give your bedroom a hotel-like atmosphere and ensure relaxation in the most personal way.
“Think about specific places you've been or traveled to that made you feel that way.” Think about where it takes you, where it travels, you, and then that's a beautiful option, a bedroom palette to create.”
