Major General Vithai LaithomyaThe spokesman for the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RATARF) gave an update on the Thai-Kambodian border fence project on Saturday and confirmed that the military will accelerate the construction along agreed border lines to improve security and to improve surveillance efficiency.
The RATARF has completed plans for a permanent fence in the province of Sa Kaeo, which covers a total length of 23.6 kilometers, which are divided into two sections:
- Aranyaprathet Checkpoint 09 to Grenzmarker 49: 6.5 km
- Grenzmarker 50–51: 17.1 km
These areas are free from border disputes, including natural demarcations, due to natural delimitations, including the channels of Khlong Luek and Khlong Phrom Hod.
Electronic monitoring measures
The RATARF has also proposed the installation of an electronic fence system, in which CCTV cameras are integrated and difficult to monitor into susceptible areas in susceptible areas. The first CCTV pole was used on September 18 near the border marker 50 behind the Khlong Luek Checkpoint in the Aranyaprathet district, which marks the basis of a modern border security system.
