Coalition for sustainable procurement: a catalyst for changes

What is the coalition for sustainable procurement?

The coalition for sustainable procurement is directed by UN Global Compact, the world's largest initiative for sustainability of companies with more than 20,000 business participants.

Companies from all over the world, including those who are based in both developed and developing countries, fight together to fight for higher business standards.

It serves as an attempt to align strategies and operations that focus on the environment, human rights and work.

The coalition includes a number of companies that are devoted to the practical implementation of sustainability into procurement. The founding members are: Altus Power, Inc., BBVA, Concept 4 Limited, Ezaki Glico Co., Ltd., Intrepid Travel, JDE PEET's NV, KPMG, Outokumpu Oyj, PPC Group, Renew PVT Ltd., S & P Global Inc., Safaricom PLC, Schneider Eleider, and Schneider Electrical.

Ultimately, the group represents a new era of collaboration with regard to responsible procurement, decarbonization of the suppliers and the diversification of global value chains.

The first forum focused on the need for a high-ranking public-private dialogue, which brings CPOs, political decision-makers, ministers and sustainability heads for a discussion about frameworks and criteria.

Sanda Ojiambo, deputy general secretary and CEO of the Global Compact of the United Nations, explains: “The Global Compact has introduced the coalition for sustainable procurement, a global network that has committed to the orientation and standardization of procurement frames, the parts of distributing strategies and the management of measurable improvements in the sustainability of the supply chain.
