British textile artist and designer Margo Selby has worked with color and geometric shapes throughout her career. And now she's collaborated with Habitat, applying her pattern and fabric skills to a whole range of homewares, including some kaleidoscopic lamps and shades.
For Margo, exploring lighting, patterns and colors in three dimensions was a new and exciting experience. “It’s something I’d like to do more often,” she says. “Color has this incredible ability to bring spaces to life, enliven us and connect us emotionally with our surroundings. I find working with color uplifting and love bringing it into my own interiors too.”
The patterns Margo experiments with in this collection are striped and modern, reflecting the weaving process. “Weaving is methodical, disciplined, structured and linear,” she says. “I work with patterns that reflect this style, organizing geometric shapes into orderly lines. These organized patterns are wonderful ways to play with color.” The timing is perfect as we're all getting a little bolder and braver when it comes to decorating our homes with color. And although to us the textiles in the collection are, unsurprisingly, fabulous housing etcit was a floor lamp that stole the show.

Buster Bobbin floor lamp
Margo's pieces include color and print, and this lamp has such a distinctive style. It would be perfect for a child's room or living room that needs a little retro energy. The textured spool-inspired stand adds a touch of fun, while the shade celebrates Margo's weaving techniques and signature printed textiles with a geometric motif and bold colors.
“My studio team and I are all extremely proud to be working with Habitat again, a brand that has been at the forefront of producing iconic, design-led British homeware for over 60 years,” says Margo.
“It was exciting to see my artwork and authentic, handcrafted designs translated into affordable, well-crafted pieces that are accessible to everyone,” she adds. “I particularly enjoyed designing the lighting pieces in this collection, exploring patterns in sculptural form with the Bobbin Lamp, and reinventing a yarn cone for the portable Hibberd Lamp.”

Decor is the easiest way to bring color and pattern into your home, and a mix of art, soft furnishings and colorful lighting add energy and vibrancy. If you're not sure where to start, consider “saturating your space with patterns” – this may not sound subtle, but it's the easiest way to soften the impact of bold prints and patterns.
