Road closed after bridge hit by truck in Conwy

These images show how a heavily used bridge was closed following a traffic accident. There was an unconfirmed report that a truck had crashed into the level crossing near Cadnant Park in Conwy.

Part of the structure is boarded up. Barriers, metal fences and bollards were installed at the ends of the bridge.

It is unknown how long the closure will last. Some observers took to Facebook to comment. The North Wales Live WhatsApp community for top stories and breaking news is now live – find out how to sign up here

One woman was concerned about how the bus passengers would cope. She said: “This impacts the number 27 bus route, which many rely on.”

Another former resident was “appalled” by the volume of traffic on this route. They said: “I lived in Conwy all my life until I moved to Canada and had a home in Cadnant Park for years and my aunt before me.”

“Luckily there was only one small accident that I can remember in all that time, but now I'm appalled at the traffic that's going over that little bridge. I don't live in Conwy anymore, but friends are keeping me updated.”

“Cadnant was always considered a quiet, peaceful place to live, but by the time we left it was already being used as a shortcut to all these new housing projects and now there is talk of more housing projects – a disgrace. Cadnant should remain a quiet and peaceful place where residents can live in safety.”

The bridge is the Lady Erskine Bridge, named after local philanthropist Jane Silence Erskine, who owned much of Conwy in the 19th century.
