Events throughout the year promote community engagement. The observatory hosts stargazing parties, day tours and astronomy lectures. In the meantime, the library organizes fun activities for children, teenagers and adults – from book readings with well-known authors to children's theater and anime clubs. One of the Coachella Valley's largest cultural events takes place here: The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival takes place every February and sells out every year. (As of press time, the February 5-7, 2025 event is already sold out and there is a waiting list. Featured authors include Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, writer Jesmyn Ward and dean of the Columbia Journalism School Jelani Cobb.)
