FG Studio transforms a riverside farmhouse into a design gallery
Standing underneath ShanghaiLocated on Shanghai's Minpu Bridge and bordering Pujiang Countryside Park, Wild Garden 野空间 (Wild Gallery Space) breathes new life into a once-forgotten riverside spot. Designed by FG Studio, a humble Farmhouse Is rethought as a utopian design gallery where architecture and nature come together. FG Studio established Wild Garden as a creative base and oversaw every phase – from planning and construction to interior design and ongoing operations. The newly planted landscape suggests the vibrant energy of the approaching spring.
The site was formerly an irrigation facility for the Pujiang Countryside Park and was no longer used. The architectural team redefined the boundaries with clean white walls that provide separation while allowing views into the interior. The design respects the original structure and promotes harmony between architecture and nature. The front area features an open landscape with layered platforms and a minimalist water feature, giving a tranquil feeling of ceremony. To the rear are versatile spaces including a riverside bar and a wooden platform set in a grove, ideal for gatherings. Tall trees frame the site, while a preserved corner of farmland revives the feeling of organic life.

Wild Garden combines architecture, nature and creative expression
The design is located in the Pujiang Countryside Park and emphasizes integration into the natural and architectural context. Instead of rebuilding, Office based in Shanghai FG Studio refined existing structures and used the “box” as a recurring motif to promote a dialogue between architecture and its surroundings. Geometric black-framed glass boxes were added to the two-story farmhouse, providing a sharp modern contrast to the rustic surroundings. A vertical white concrete box with floor-to-ceiling windows breaks through the one-story buildings, doubles as an exhibition hall and breaks the spatial monotony. Skylights flood the interiors with soft natural light, creating a timeless interplay of old and new.
Wild Garden embodies FG Studio's holistic design approach, combining raw structural elements with curated materials. Exposed beams and original textures remain as focal points, reflecting the craftsmanship of the artworks on display. Interiors showcase custom furnishings and finishes, including a “design showroom” with patchwork flooring made from surplus project materials. Partitions made of glass blocks and partial glass floors reinforce the feeling of openness, while experimental furniture prototypes add a personal, innovative touch. A newly added northern platform offers panoramic views – the soaring lines of the Minpu Bridge to the north and the tranquil, reflective courtyards to the south. A dynamic, ever-evolving space, Wild Garden now hosts art and design exhibitions that blend with the natural surroundings. These exhibitions evolve with the changing of the seasons, bringing life and rhythm to an environment where nature and creativity thrive together.
