Wicklow Uplands Council will host a workshop in Greystones to promote a better understanding of dogs in outdoor communal spaces.
It is the third in a series of workshops that will take place in all five boroughs. Similar events are planned in Arklow and Blessington/Baltinglass in the new year.
In collaboration with Wicklow County Council, Wicklow Uplands Council invited walker and sitter Kelly Hegarty from Purple Woofs to put together a dynamic workshop with practical application and theory around the management and control of dogs in community spaces, upland habitats and conservation areas.
The aim of this workshop is to provide dog owners and lovers with the knowledge necessary to create a harmonious environment for dogs and communities.
The hope is that participants will learn to interpret dogs' body language and emotional signals, thereby improving their ability to respond to their dogs' needs and promoting safer interactions in public spaces.
The workshop will cover practical skills on leash use and etiquette, waste management (fouling) and managing encounters with other dogs, other people, wildlife and farm animals to ensure respectful use of shared spaces.
Participants will also receive an introduction to legal responsibilities that highlights the importance of compliance to community safety.
Participants will be prepared to interact responsibly with their dogs, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for dogs and people alike.
The workshop will take place on Saturday December 14th from 11.30am at the Shoreline Leisure Center in Greystones. The event is free and you can register at Eventbrite.ie.
