LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man on probation was caught with methamphetamine after a chase in Lincoln on Wednesday, authorities say.

At approximately 3 p.m., investigators with the Lincoln Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force were near 30th and Q streets conducting surveillance on Aaron Burkholder.

The 48-year-old from Kearney was wanted for violating his federal probation.

When officers approached him, he ran away, according to court documents.

An affidavit said Burkholder ran through two backyards and jumped over two fences before he was caught.

Investigators searched him and found 196.9 grams of meth – nearly 7 ounces – and a digital scale, authorities said.

Burkholder was injured during the chase and had to be checked out at a hospital before being taken to the Lancaster County Jail.

He appeared in court Thursday and a judge set his bond at $500,000. He would have to pay $50,000 for his release.

His next hearing is scheduled for January 14.

In 2021, Burkholder escaped federal custody while serving a sentence on a meth charge.

He was sentenced in 2023 to an additional 18 months in prison and an additional three years of probation.
