An architect + building owner of the Victorian worker Cottage Renovation

Many of the original houses in the city center in Melbourne are just waiting for the right buyer to restore their original functions. The employee's cottage from the 1890s in Brunswick West was not one of these houses.

This house was far from a fast fixer group and was almost completely outside the repair. The walls were covered with cracks, and there was a lot of damage to the mold.

An inheritance overlay required someone with a fantastic point of view, time, skill and patience to realize the potential of the building as a warm and generous home.

The house could not have got into better hands than the architect Natasha Nardella from Nardel Architects and manufacturer Joshua Best of Jobe Homes, who bought the property in 2021.

They immediately started working on the project and aimed to complete a renovation and an addition in the record time.

“It was organized chaos, with almost all selections and finished, which were made on the go,” says Natasha.

“We decided to do it so that we can accelerate the first phases of the design/documentation and therefore start on site as soon as possible.”

Natasha designed a contemporary two -story brick -wing use that pays homage to the history of Brunswick as a Brickworks hotspot.

At the top of the local industry in the 1870s, there were 40 bricks and potter in the area, including the former Hoffman Brickworks nearby (and sometimes still today).

Stones are inside and outside and give the calm, minimal Haven Natasha and Joshua a texture that was created by Brunswick's busy roads. Color is only introduced by selected pieces of furniture and four large works of art that hang in the kitchen and in the dining area, including two paintings that were specially commissioned for the room.

The rear addition is largely hidden from the street by an established tree in the front garden of the neighbor and the completely restored original facade with new roof, decorative tips, a wooden window and a stream post in accordance with the design of the 1890s.

After eight months of construction work, Natasha and Joshua are in a home suitable at home for the experiences that bring joy and meaning for their lives: to give friends: friends; Enjoy a drink in the sun and listen to music in your committed plate room.

“I love to sit on the sofa with a coffee in my hand and burn and music that plays gently in the background. I find it a super calming room and my favorite place to relax, ”says Natasha.

The couple's house is regularly shared with customers who are amazed at the room when he meets to discuss potential projects by Nardel Architects and Jobe Homes.

“We have also surrounded ourselves from other creative people that we have worked together, including Beci Orpin, Jac and, Mincapes and softer studio,” says Natasha. “It is a really nice community to be part.”
