In the historic Wenwu Temple in Lukang, Changhuaartist Cheng Tsung Feng Completes theater, a huge one bamboo installation As a result, the disappeared tradition of the temporary opera stage, which is once of central importance for the Taiwanese temple festivals. The work is built from thousands of alternating sticks and is a contemporary architectural structure and a lively memory of a cultural form that once defined the community's meetings, but is rarely seen.
The theater is inspired by bamboo stages, which have been quickly built in all of Taiwan until the past decades for opera performances and temple celebrations. Feng's structure reflects this ephemeral and translates it into an experimental space. The scaffolding consists of a strict vertical-horizontal grille made of bamboo lengths, which are softened by split bamboo strips that pursue curved arches over the facade and the floor plan.

The audience becomes performer in the light stage of the theater
Visitors are invited to step into the Taiwanese artist Installation by climbing bamboo stairs that lead to the wide central platform. As soon as they are inside, they are covered by the transparent network, in which light filters through the slatted walls and floors and the tactility of bamboo comes to the fore. During the day, the stage becomes a retirement, a place where you can gather or play. At night, illuminated by bright festival lamps, the installation is transformed into a ceremonial space that remembers the atmosphere of the traditional opera performances with its color, spectacle and its feeling of the common ritual.
While people move through the theater, they fluctuate between the roles of the audience and performers and embody the cyclical exchange in the heart of the theater itself. Fengs project puts memory in the lived experience and encourages tradition through participation. The Bamboo Theater was faced with Wenwu Temple and offers visitors and passers-by in the festival and offers you a room for resting, playing or performing.
