How to paint a fence or garden shed: paint tips from our expert

A perfect maljob begins with the selection of the best garden color for the upcoming task. However, there are some other factors that you should consider when it comes to bringing brushes into the fence.

1. Check the weather forecast: We recommend choosing a dry day with a temperature between 10 and 30 degrees. Most colors have a specific minimum temperature for the application, so it is best to check the instructions to be safe.

2. Select the correct formula: For the best water resistance, choose a formula enriched by wax. This ensures that water beads on the surface and it should be completely water -resistant.

3. Use the best quality you can afford: It can be tempting to choose a cheaper brush, but it is a wrong economy and can lead to a less impressive end result.

4. Look at color: If you want to look bigger, choose a lighter shade because it helps to illuminate your green space. For a dramatic contrast, black fences will look pop and the surrounding plants!

5. Think about versatility: Check the label before the start. Some colors are only suitable for fences, scales and rough sawdust, but many can be used on several garden surfaces, including bricks, stone and terracotta. Note your project when choosing the type of color.

6. Plan for two layers: Almost all the colors we tested looked better after two layers, even if they were marked as “a coat”. If you plan at least two layers, then it is a bonus if you are only happy for you.

7. Work in sections: Some colors must be reproduced on the same day or in the following days. It is a good idea to work in smaller sections on the same day and pick up the entire area coat with a coat.

8. Don't buy more than you need: Color may be difficult to dispose of. Although larger tubs and doses could be a better value, it is only worth it if you use most of it.

9. Be a good neighbor: Be dripping when painting color – sometimes color from the other side of the fence can also be seen. Wax enriched colors do this less likely because the wax drips the color.

10. Contribute: Fence color can be chaotic. We therefore recommend using a dust sheet at the base of the fence plate to catch all splashes. If you make chaos, terraces and bricks can be quickly cleaned with warm soapy water.
