A building on the State Capitol campus in Olympia and named after a long -time official from Sunnyside has received a platinum certification from the management of energy and environmental design (LEED).
The Irving R. Newhouse BUmid''S The namesake is the father of congress member Dan Newhouse, the US representative of the 4th Congress District Washington. The new Newhouse building completed in 2024 is over 59,000 square meters with four floors and a basement. It replaces the original building that had two floors and measure 25,000 square foot.

Leed is the most frequently used green building assessment system in the world. Only 10% of applicants receive a platinum certification, the highest level.
Two other buildings on the Capitol Campus are Leed Platinum Certified: Helen Sommer's Building and 1500 Jefferson. Two are certified gold: Capitol Childcare Center and John L. O'Brien.
The state legislature in 2021 submitted that the building reached at least Leed Silver Certification. The characteristics that have contributed to the platinum certification include:
