Corn-based roof renovation is breaking new ground

Colorbiotics, a Sika company, has partnered with Roof Rejuvenate to offer a product designed to restore aging asphalt shingles. The solution is corn-based, free of harsh chemicals, and can extend the life of roofs on homes, condominiums, and businesses.

Roof Rejuvenate is a bio-based asphalt shingle rejuvenator, not a coating or sealer. It penetrates the shingle to restore lost oils, improve flexibility and extend its life. Containing natural corn oil as its primary ingredient, Roof Rejuvenate works down to the molecular level of the shingles to restore flexibility and increase sand retention that is naturally lost over time.

“This new product provides consumers with clarity when reroofing,” said Kent Rotert, vice president of Colorbiotics. “Roof Rejuvenate is the answer.”

What customers won't find in Roof Rejuvenate is methyl esters, an ingredient in similar products that breaks the bonds in the oil and changes its chemical composition, reducing the effectiveness of the roof rejuvenate product.

“We are using corn and the work of our incredible scientists to develop a product proven to restore asphalt shingles,” Rotert said. “How could we better bring farmers, producers and consumers together?”

Roof Rejuvenate is ideal for roofs that are at least five years old. The application is carried out through a one-time spray treatment by a trained and certified specialist. A network of applicators is already available in the United States and Canada.
