For residents of Fresno County who appreciate beautiful landscapes, but prefer not to work in the blazing summer heat, a new planting in the garden of the sun shows a lush selection of plants that grow in full sun, require minimal water and no summer maintenance.
The heat -tolerant planting is located directly in the entrance gate of the garden, on the left when you enter. A mixture of locals and non -local plants with gray and green tones surrounds a selection that generates red flowers almost all year round.
The background – which examines the free country behind the area in which the plants are ripe, comprise Bauhinia Tree and Vine, Yucatan daisy, Gewürzbusch and Secken. In the front, Blue Fescue -Tier -Grass and Lime -containing gray artemisia triggered the green leaves of several types of salvia, Coreopsis, Coyote -Busch and Sweet Beast. In the middle of the bed there are Lantana Compacta with bright red composite flowers that attract butterflies, colibris and other pollinators. When the lantana begins to fade when the weather cools down, the miniature bottle brush flowers deliver a splash of color.
The heat-tolerant planting bed is dripped for an hour three times a week, with a gallon per hour inline-emitter being in a grid pattern of 18 inches. The floor surface is covered with compost to reduce evaporation and build the floor. Most plants are lowered in winter and enable fresh leaves and living flowers in spring.
The garden of the sun is located in 1750 N. winery in Fresno. Admission is free. The garden is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. In addition, the garden is on Saturday, October 4th and November 1st, for tours, activities of children and the opportunity to provide garden questions from Gärtnern from the UC master.
