Each district provided input into the landscaping of the solar fields in its area. Neighbors chose between trees and decorative fences and whether they wanted to plant urban farms or wildflowers beneath the panels.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says community input on the design was a top priority.
“We won’t move forward unless each of these neighborhood associations signs a neighborhood agreement on the design of the solar arrays they want,” Duggan said. “This was a neighborhood project from the start.”
Construction of the fields is scheduled to begin in spring 2025.
