Clothing Drive organized by Notre Dame Prep Junior to reduce landfill waste and to search for a sustainable end of life for uniforms and other logo clothing.
With the aim of reducing the amount of waste flowing on landfill sponsorships used nextiles used clothing and other fabric objects, including leather, in bags with filling that are sold on the market for secondary use.
Nextiles is a textile recycling and secondary use company based in Detroit, which specializes in environmentally friendly textile products that can enter the circular economy at the end of life. For Payton Schmit, Nextiles fit perfectly into their two-time initiative to eliminate landfill waste and find an additional way to take over old uniforms of the old emergency-lady preparation again.
Last Friday, Schmit held a “casual day” day with the proceeds to process the clothes that takes place this week from Monday to Wednesday during her clothing Drive.
“My initiative with NDP and Nextiles was to create a clothing drive to eliminate textile landfill waste,” said the junior from Clarkston. “Nextiles is a textile recycling company that produces non-toxic building insulation and consumer goods that were produced exclusively from donated clothing and fabrics. That is why I turned to the next CEO and founder of Nextiles, Madeline Miller, to work with their company to process” not permanent “items from our NDP community.”

She said that students can all worn, torn, colorful, personalized clothing (called, NDP clothing, sports/company clothing) and all other non-thunderstorms that are ultimately sent to Nextiles to the Nextiles, which they then recycle into environmentally friendly products so that they do not end in a landfill.
Nextiles includes clothing to produce a number of products, including Ecoblow, an non-toxic, environmentally friendly building insulation that was made exclusively from recycled pre-sellers from manufacturers, in particular from interiors for automobiles, and fashion designer and schools.
“I have the goal of achieving £ 1,000 clothing from NDP, which would require about 30% to participate in the high school,” she added.
The germ of her idea actually arose when the NDP passed new uniform pieces due to the renaming of the school.
“Due to the proprietary topics, most uniforms cannot be donated to the Salvation Army, which Goodwill and other second -hand shops are donated due to the embroidered logos,” said Schmit. “So I started researching how our uniforms could be recycled together with other clothing, which we have all that cannot be donated due to excessive wear and or other personalization.
She said she was excited for several reasons to experience Nextile's mission.

“Firstly, it is a company based in Detroit in the woman that focuses on the focus of the focus: Hope Facility, a non -profit organization, the education and training for underrepresented minorities and others,” said Schmit, who came to NDP for the first time as a sixth grader. “Secondly, I learned that the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that 17 million tons of textiles are thrown away every year and textile waste is 6% of all materials on land.
She adds that her fingers are exceeded that the NDP community comes through for its initiative.
In the meantime, Schmit calculates her junior year in a school that she says she has given her a lot.
“Thanks to the committed teachers, an inviting community and challenging academics, my experience at NDP was positive,” she said. “I was also lucky enough to participate in several clubs and programs that have suspended various experiences.”
She also says that her time at Notre Dame Prep prepares her for college and supports her support to help her achieve her many goals.
“I also estimated to be surrounded by a community of like -minded people who encourage me and my colleagues to improve us and our community.”
College is still removed in its horizon, but not far from your thinking process.
“At the moment I have also visited Colleges and also explored various career opportunities,” she said. “Although I am still not sure what I would like to focus on my studies after the high school, I can now think about something in business.”
