Painting a fence can be tedious work – your wrists and knees hurt, you have to fight against splinters, and it always seems to need a new coat of paint every year. Fortunately, a garden fence hack that uses a simple £ 1 tool has become viral because it is the fastest method -as well as incredibly cheap.
Clare Hoops, the DIY video creator, told the followers on Tikkok that the “sponge method” is a quick method for painting a garden fence -and does not require a brush. She said: I have tried so many different methods to paint fences over the years that this is far the fastest. “
She explained that everything they need are a large yellow sponge and rubber gloves to avoid chaos. You can either use the sponge as a whole or cut it into half, which may be easier to grasp if you have smaller hands.
Simply dip the sponge in your color and distribute it on the fence in an up and down movement. “It glides over and gets into all the really bumpy parts,” said Hoops. “It's not the cleanest, but it's definitely the fastest.”
Her video collected more than 2.2 million views and 73,000 likes – and the comments were filled with people who praised the hack. A user explained that the sponge method would help her paint her fence as someone with weakness in skill.
When asked whether the color is dripping on the other side of the fence with this method, Hoops replied: “Not really, you can still control the spread when you are careful.”
Hoops also said that they don't have to put much pressure on the sponge – and you should be enough for the entire job. She also explained that she could do the entire work in just one coat instead of making several with a brush.
In another video, Hoops told the followers that they could first try algae treatment if they have a garden fence that only seems to be green every year.
She showed her a treatment on the wood and explained that the full work lasted three to four days and could be “a really good alternative” to paint completely again.
The commentators of the video also proposed other cheap and happy tools that could be used instead of a brush if they paint a fence or wooden items such as stairs. One person pointed out that a microfiber tanning glove could have a useful effect, while another recommended to use a sock worn by rubber gloves.
