A wolf that should have killed around 60 sheep in Barneveld in the past few months should be shot, said the province of Gelderland. The animal repeatedly jumped over a wolf -resistant fence to protect the cattle.
The film material published by the province shows the wolf, which jumps over the barrier in the night from 16 to July 17th. The camera was installed after a number of incidents and officials said that the wolf jumped almost 20 times the fence that corresponded to the current standards.
Wolves, which in two weeks more than twice in two weeks, are viewed by the Dutch provinces as a “problem wolf”. Gelderland is now working on a permit that would enable the animal to be shot. The province said that this was a complex legal procedure, but expects permission to be granted soon.
BIJ12, which monitors the Dutch wolf population, said it was the first time in the Netherlands that there is a clear proof that a Wolfs jump jumps such a fence.
“In general, an electrified fence of 1.20 meters is a proven effective way to hold the wolves,” said a spokesman. “But we always add that it does not offer a 100% guarantee.”
