Google has removed references to the month of Black History Month, Pride and Women's History Month from his calendar service, a step that triggered criticism of users and industry observers.
The company has marked these events beforehand, but it is no longer included in the 2025 calendar, so that users can add them manually if necessary.
A Google spokesman, Madison Cushman Veld, defended the decision and explained that maintaining an extensive list of cultural events was not “scalable or sustainable”.
Instead, the calendar service now focuses exclusively on public holidays and national observations related to Timeanddate.com.
The change follows a broader change within Google companies, in which obligations for diversity, justice and inclusion (DEI) are re -evaluated in the middle of political and economic pressure.
