Halton Council supports Widnes Solar Farm Plan on the former golf course

Plans for the construction of a new solar park of 15 football fields on the site of a former contaminated golf course were supported by the council members.

The planning department of the HASTON Council has approved the construction of a “solar microgroup” on the former golf course of St. Michael in Widnes.

More than 7,200 solar collectors are installed, which creates about four megawatts of electricity and powered public buildings, including the headquarters of the Council, the Lower House Lane Depot, the DCBL Stadium and the new leisure center in the Moor Lane.

The new 27 hectare complex (11 hectares), north of the Ditton Road and south of the Spece Road, will be the capacity of a neighboring solar park that opened in 2020.
