How the shadow factor contributed to improving the thermal efficiency of an apartment project in Brunswick

As part of The University of Tasmania's Northern Transformation Program, The Shed at the Inveresk Precinct, marks a bold step in contemporary educational architecture.

The focus of the project design is Fielder's ARAMAX aluminum, which is used extensively on both the roof and the facade. More than 3,400 m² of ARAMAX aluminum roof and over 2,000 m² of perforated facade cladding characterize the building's distinctive shape and texture, combining modern expression with a nod to the site's industrial past.

Designed by Wardle and built by Fairbrother Construction, The Shed demonstrates how ARAMAX can be adapted to complex geometries, providing both structural and aesthetic functions. Its use demonstrates the flexibility of the material and its contribution to the project's sustainability goals by achieving a lower carbon footprint while maintaining optical integrity.

Collaboration between architects, engineers and manufacturers was crucial in solving the structure's technical challenges and resulted in a landmark that redefines the university's north campus.
