House House from Figr Architecture includes nature

This family house in Fairfield is full of “Wow” moments.

Not much gives away from the street from the charming Edwardian facade about the dramatic renovation that lies inside – and shows the masterful work of the Figr architecture.

It is the home of a family of five, the Figr -Director Adi Atic and his team, with the vision, committed to combine the character of the period at home with a modern, sculptural addition that would accept its natural environment on every opportunity.

“The existing house was a bit like a rabbit without clear connections to nature. They had to go through the kitchen and the laundry to get outside into the back yard,” says Adi about the property before the renovation.

The original part of the house was meticulously rebuilt on the front of the site. Lovable architectural characteristics such as the decorative buttons, ceiling roses, high -country boards and fireplaces have been restored.

But the real transformation took place in the rear. The Figr architecture channeled the inspiration from the existing roof pipes and developed an expansion of epic proportions that were carefully shaped by a central courtyard.

A hallway that is wrapped with hardwood Blackbutt Timber serves as a “threshold tunnel”, which opens up to the new living rooms, in which vaulted ceiling contains wooden rays over the head and concrete floors under their feet.

It is an undeniable contemporary and open space that still make it more and more insistent through skylight and high windows that were built into the extensive carpentry. These openings record natural light and leaf writers and offer privacy during a neighboring two-story residential building.

According to Adi, privacy also influenced the positioning of the inner courtyard and the pool – which he describes as the “green heart” of the house, which is protected by a canopy of trees.

'The courtyard acts as a uniform and refreshing green space; The large sliding doors dissolved barriers between interior and free. And the increased rear deck that seems to float over the landscape, ”he adds.

The resulting hug not only includes the green outside, but also the residents who live there and transform the house into an intimate sanctuary.
