Haskell Hall is one of two dormitories that are temporarily closed during the 2025-2026 school year.

Two dormitories at VTSU Castleton will not be any options for life in the next semester, and the students are wondering why.

“My first thoughts that Haskell and Adams were not available in the next semester were, how will all students have a habitat and that the application rates would decrease,” said VTSU student Sarahbeth Martinez.

But Michael Robilotto Michael Robilotto, Director of Residence Life and Housing Operations, said it was no need to worry about it.

Robilotto said this year the Castleton Campus has completed 100 students who are currently living on campus, which opens up for the incoming beginners, and he hopes that the numbers will even come out.

However, if an influx of students occurs in autumn, the buildings can open up based on the needs, he said.

“We looked at the buildings in which buildings the students want to live due to the occupancy rates,” said Robilotto. “The students want to singles and suites, so we didn't want to lose any buildings that were mainly single rooms.”

However, some students see Haskell and Adams as a top election. Martinez explains that Haskell and Adams would have been their second and third choice if she was able to live in the next semester in the next semester in the next semester that is not available.

Robilotto said that the VTSU master plan had always taken into account for every campus that has one or two offline buildings for renovations and repairs or just resting and turning this process in the other buildings on the campus.

“Every campus has at least one building offline for autumn,” he said. “The Randolph Campus has a building that has been closed for two to three years and is currently progressing with renovation work in order to then set another offline.”

Castleton Hall's renovation work begins shortly because the final process of the building has already started that some students have been moved all year round. It is planned that the building will be completely empty after this year's start so that it can open for the next semester.

Robilotto emphasized that the buildings are not closed permanently, but only offline for students for the choice of space in the next semester. He explains how Castleton Hall would always be under construction to completely end them, with the bathrooms and common rooms being tackled first.

Robilotto said decisions with the students are made. He wants you to feel fulfilled in your living space to establish new connections.

“I want students to live in buildings in the first year where they have a lot to do in the campus community,” he said.

Although only a few buildings are removed and rated on repairs, he said at some point that he would touch every building to carry out some renovations and repairs.

“The idea is to start now, because the longer we are waiting, the more the prices for products will increase,” said Robilotto. “Overall, our main goal is that we want students to live in places where they feel comfortable and happy.”
