The FIA has sanctioned the use of a new, larger rubble fence, which is to be introduced from the F1 2025 season as part of its continuous engagement to improve security within motorsport. This proactive step aims to strengthen the protection of circuits for competitors, route staff and spectators.
The incessant striving for security in racing has led to the recent introduction and approval of a 6-meter high rubble fence. This structure designed and manufactured by the Swiss company offers an increased level of protection in areas with increased risk. It is expected that the new fence plays a crucial role in areas with high -speed applications, heavy gradients or grandstands that may be susceptible to deposits in the air.
According to the strict regulations of FIA, all newly built circuits are required to include these homological products. Existing class 1 circuits are also prescribed to replace damaged or broken fences with the homological solution. It is expected that the circuits of class 2 to 2026 are expected. In addition, the 6-meter fence can optionally be used by circuits that the racing lovers want to offer improved security.
Although circuits such as Suzuka, Bahrain, Monza, Interlagos and Fuji are already using 6 m high fences, they have no tests against the highest security standards required for homologation. The Geobrugg fence is the first of its height to be approved by the FIA. It endured a number of strict tests, including a 780 kg ball that started with a speed of 60 km / h, and a full car that uses at 120 km / h.
