A new London Drug flagship offers customers a way to reduce plastic waste at home.

At the center of the 20,000 square meter concept store in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, is an innovative refill station, which was developed in collaboration with SC Johnson, reported Packaging World. The station enables buyers to refill the method and the hand and mature soap of Ms. Meyer with reusable bags. This switch could reduce the plastic consumption by up to 93% compared to conventional disposable bottles.

“The environmental advantages of refilling and reuse of containers in relation to carbon and plastic reduction are unprecedented,” said Fisk Johnson, chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. “We worked closely with our partners at London Drugs to make the … refilling machines as conveniently as possible, which is the key for the success of refill/reusing systems.”

The refill station is a practical solution for the growing load on the recycling systems on the side of the road and the enormous amount of plastic waste in the household. According to 4Ocean, the cosmetic and beauty industry alone generates around 120 billion packaging units per year, and much is not recyclable. In addition, even recyclable packaging is still stacked on landfill sponsorships.

Much of plastic pollution that creates people ends in the oceans, contaminating ecosystems and harmful wild animals. Plastic waste also leads to microplastic pollution – these tiny plastic pieces end everywhere, including in our food chain, our drinking water and our body.

For buyers, this refill option offers a more sustainable shopping experience with the additional bonus to save money. Refillable products cost less for the production, since the additional need for plastic packaging is not necessary and these cost savings are also reduced for buyers. Buyers can also increase the demand for sustainable solutions such as them by supporting environmentally friendly initiatives through mainstream brands.

“At London Drugs, we are inspired to create the best possible experience for our customers who are anticipated by our wish to anticipate their needs before discovering the existence of these needs,” said Clint Mahlman, President and Chief Operating Officer from London Drugs. “Through this project, we present our flexibility as a retailer to deal with the developing needs of our customers and to adapt a retail environment that are rooted in sustainability and wellness.”
