There's no denying that greens and yellows are trending in 2025 – both individually and as a popular color combination. For example, we saw quite a bit of green and yellow in the kitchen and living room. But according to interior design expert and viral TikTok creator Phoenix Gray, it's time to rethink the combination of these two hues as we head into 2026. “I'm against this yellow and green trend, this color combination just doesn't work for me,” he revealed in a recent TikTok video in which he shared some of his favorite and least favorite emerging trends. “It always looks like a sports team whether it’s saturated or desaturated,” he added. “Honestly, it’s just really loud and old-fashioned.” His followers were quick to agree with the comments, with one calling the color combination a resounding “no.”
However, that doesn't mean you have to avoid green and yellow entirely. In fact, these two colors will continue to trend separately in 2026 – but in a slightly different way than this year. While dark emerald, forest and olive greens predominated in 2025, next year's greens will become lighter and softer – as seen in Valspar's 2026 Color of the Year, Warm Eucalyptus. When it comes to yellow, last year was dominated by bright, sunny hues, but 2026 will be all about natural, earthy tones – think mustard and soft butter yellow, the latter being a great color to try in your home to instantly boost your mood.
Find the perfect green and yellow color combination
While green and yellow may not be the most visually appealing color combination, you certainly won't have a hard time finding colors that pair beautifully with any of these tones. If you really want to incorporate green into your space, consider pairing it with soft browns and blues with gray undertones – these shades, combined with a warm eucalyptus green, will be a popular color palette for 2026. Or, if you're looking for something a little bolder, consider a color combination of green and red, which is actually a bold and unexpected color combination that you'll be seeing in kitchens everywhere in 2026. There are a lot of color palettes you can use when you have green in your home, so you have lots of options when it comes to finding the right color combination. Other combinations that work well include green and dusty pink and green and burnt orange.
Alternatively, if you want to find a way to bring yellow into your space, consider pairing it with brown or rich burgundy tones – especially if you plan to lean more towards the nature-inspired mustard and buttery yellow tones that will continue to be on trend next year. Blue also goes wonderfully with yellow. Considering that blue-grey is expected to play a big role next year due to its calming effects, a soft color palette of blue and yellow could be the perfect choice for a cheerful yet relaxing space.
