Whether you plan to redecorate your kitchen or not, the latest trends in 2025 will inspire you to make at least some changes to refresh your space. And while one would argue that kitchen designs should remain timeless, there is always room to play with some of your decorating choices.
Embracing the latest kitchen trends will ensure your home always feels new and exciting, and your choice of tiles is a great way to create a new and fresh atmosphere. “With an emphasis on texture, dimension, and timeless color, tile trends in 2025 will elevate kitchens and combine artistry with function to create spaces that feel both current and lasting,” interior designer Vyanca Soto tells me.
Never before have designers talked so much about bringing your own personality and story into your home. The good news is that this year's trends allow you to do just that while meeting all the requirements of a sophisticated, modern home.
1. Organic, artisanal textures
The latest trends are all about attention to detail, and choosing your tiles is one such detail that you can't ignore. Nature's influence on interiors is becoming increasingly popular, and one of its strongest areas of presence is texture. Textured tiles, whether stone-like, grooved or handmade, will take center stage in 2025.
“I feel super inspired by the textured, minimalist tiles that are handmade and imported from Japan,” interior designer Ashley Macuga tells me. “The style is clearly influenced by Japanese artisans' appreciation of nature – earthy colors, organic patterns and special glazes that imitate water and fire.” Japan has a long tradition of ceramic crafts and their artisans value precision and care to achieve this ensures that every tile is a work of art,” she explains.
If sourcing Japanese tiles isn't an easy task for you, Vyanca recommends opting for terrazzo, zellige tiles and natural stone varieties to add texture and character to kitchen walls and floors.
Price: $8.49/square foot.
Textured, natural-looking tiles will be trendy in 2025. A tile like terrazzo in a light color is a style that looks good and is easy to obtain.
2. Eye-catching backsplashes
If there is only one area of your kitchen you want to focus on, considering a unique backsplash idea might be the way to go. Because it's a smaller, more enclosed area that isn't the center of your room but is still visible, it offers a great opportunity to make a statement and try something different. Experiment with tiles in bold colors or creative stacking options.
“We're noticing bolder, statement-making backsplashes for kitchens—think large-format tiles, mirrored surfaces, or unique patterns that extend from counter to ceiling,” says tile specialist Kiara Perdomo. However, make sure you keep practicality in mind and choose materials that offer durability and easy maintenance.
Price: $8.89/square foot.
Get creative with your backsplash and choose geometric patterns in contrasting tones.
3. Forever green
Green has been such a popular color for several years that it has almost become a new neutral color. The great thing about it is that despite all the previous iterations, it still looks fresh and is a color trend that is here to stay. There are so many beautiful shades that look elegant in a kitchen that you won't get bored of green until you try them all (and how likely is that?).
“Green is always a classic in the kitchen,” says interior designer Jessica Shaw. While a light green looks fresh and invigorating, a darker green creates more sophistication and a cozier atmosphere. Keep it on the light side and pair sage green tiles with cream kitchen cabinets, or be bold and go for a darker, monochromatic look and transfer your green from the tiles to the cabinets.
Price: $4.99/square foot.
Green tiles are very trendy and you shouldn't miss the opportunity to add tiles in this shade to your kitchen backsplash or kitchen island.
4. Large format tiles
While small tiles still have their place if you're going for a more feminine, delicate look, they can be a bit tiring on the eye and create a somewhat cluttered look. Therefore, the trends are now moving towards larger formats.
“People are gravitating toward large format tiles with fewer grout lines, especially on kitchen backsplashes, for a cleaner, more spacious look,” tile specialist Kiara Perdomo tells me. “Large tiles with minimal seams are becoming increasingly popular on floors and walls. They create a modern, open atmosphere while reducing maintenance costs. Look for hexagons, rounded edges and oversized squares in your floors for a modern update,” adds Vyanca.

Large format tiles look more expensive and modern and are also easier to keep clean.
5. Linear layouts
If you want to add more character to your kitchen tiles, play with the layout. Subway tiles are best suited for this as they still have their modern, geometric look.
“Stacked vertical, staggered brick or herringbone patterns offer new ways to use traditional tiles like subway or linear tiles,” advises Vyanca. White is the classic choice, but be bold and choose a color like the popular green or blue, which looks striking when paired with a more complex pattern like a herringbone.
Price: $8.62/square foot.
Subway tiles are perfect if you want to play around with different floor plan styles. Choose them in a bold color for a trendy look.
Which kitchen tiles don't go out of style?
A timeless kitchen will never be a wrong choice, and if you prefer to stick with tiles in classic colors, “Neutral tones like soft greige, off-white or muted taupe in matte or honed finishes ensure lasting appeal,” Vyanca assures us. As for the layout: “For a more timeless feel, try straight stacked tiles in a warm tone – they're simple but stunning!” adds interior designer Thea Bloch-Neal.
