Lynchburg Equestrian has a solid showing at VT IHSA

Blacksburg, Virginia – The University of Lynchburg equestrian team competed with its IHSA group in the two-day VT IHSA hosted by Virginia Tech this weekend, placing first on day two and fourth on day one.

On the first day of the event, the Hornets collected a total of 31 points and finished in fourth place. Lynchburg bounced back on day two to win the show with 38 total points and drop score. On the first day, Jessica McElhaney, Ashby WattsAnd Ashlyn Barksdale Each took first place in their respective class. McElhaney won the Intermediate Flat, Watts took first place in the Limit Fences and Barksdale took the top spot in the Novice A.

Additionally, Amaya Bellfield took second place in Open Fences Zoey Horn took fifth place. Bellfield followed with a fourth place finish in the Open Flat. Ava Jackson Fourth place in the intermediate fences A and Ava Hogan Third place in the Intermediate Flat B rounded out Lynchburg's achievements in the intermediate division. Adam Matejko achieved a solid second place in the Limit Flat B, McKenzie Burch took fourth place in the Limit Flat C and Shuler rounded out the Lynchburg players from day one with a third place finish in the introductory course.

The Hornets shined on the second day, taking five first places in all classes. Bellfield again had a great performance in the Open classes, taking first place in the Open Fences and second place in the Open Flat. Watts took first place again at Limit Fences A Mackenzie Overstreet and Matejko took first place in Limit Flat B and Limit Flat C, respectively. Annabella Shores was awarded first place in Novice A for Lynchburg's fifth top finish of the day.

Jackson was the only Hornet player to compete in the Intermediate Fences and placed fifth in the A Class. McElhaney finished her weekend with a fourth place finish in the Intermediate Flat A. To round out the show, Ruby Suess took second place in Limit Flat A, Reese Albany took third place in the Novice B class and Shuler placed fifth in the introductory class.
