CCE from Monroe County celebrates 50 years of the Master Gardener Volunteer Program

Monroe Co., Ny – Cornell Cooperative Expansion by Monroe County (CCE Monroe) is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Master Garden Volunteer (MGV) program and to honor the community of horticulture, environmental administration and the community of the community for half a century.
Since its foundation in 1975, the Monroe County Master Garden volunteer program has not only maintained flourishing gardens, but also lively communities. As part of a nationwide network that includes 56 New York counties, MGVS have made thousands of residents with research knowledge and sustainable landscape practices possible.
In 2024 alone, the gardeners of the New York State Master contributed an amazing 98,094 volunteer lessons, responded to over 22,500 consumer questions about hotlines, plant clinics and location visits and organized over 4,000 events in the community. On site, the MGVS of Monroe County registered almost 7,000 volunteers last year alone, which corresponds to a service value of 257,599 US dollars, an inspiring proof of their commitment and effects.
“We are enthusiastic not only to honor the longevity of our program, but also the incredible people behind it,” said Ashly Piedmont, coordinator of the Master Garden volunteer program at CCE Monroe. “Master gardeners not only breed plants – they are growing.
The anniversary celebration also welcomed the latest class of 36 interns to the program and expensive volunteers who mark milestones for 10 and 15 years for duty. Particularly recognition was extended to veterans -MGV mentors, the guidance of which helps new volunteers to flourish.
In honor of this milestone year, a generous greenhouse donation from Chris Murray and the support of valued community partners such as The Friends of Extension Foundation, Monroe County Parks Department and Fioravanti Florist reflect the deep-rooted connections that the program cult.
From signature initiatives such as blocks in Bloom, which recently his 1,000. Household, right up to educational workshops, plant sales and location ratings, continued to enrich MGVS from Monroe County and promote sustainable practices.
