MTG announces she is resigning from Congress in January due to a dispute with Trump

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she is resigning from Congress.

The Republican made the announcement in a 10-minute video shared on social media Friday evening, adding that her last day will be January 5.

I was fortunate to represent Georgia's 14th District for five years, which is home to some of the most wonderful, kind-hearted, God-fearing, patriotic, and hard-working people you will ever meet. “Good, normal Americans,” she wrote in a four-page statement accompanying the video.

But she said she was “always despised in Washington, D.C. and just never fit in.” She also said her role in politics has cost her valuable time with her loved ones.

I will never forget the day I had to leave my mother's side because my father had to undergo brain surgery to remove cancerous tumors in order to fly to Washington, DC to defend the President [Donald] Trump and vote NO on the Democrat’s second impeachment in 2021. My poor father and mother, that was way too much,” Greene wrote.

“Throughout all of this, I have never changed or kept my campaign promises,” she added.

The news comes as Greene remains embroiled in a public feud with Trump, which she says began after she supported the release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump, who withdrew his support and endorsement of her last week, previously said tensions between the two had been rising for months.

“It all seemed to start when I sent her a poll saying she shouldn't run for senator or governor, she was at 12% and had no chance (unless of course she had my endorsement – which she wouldn't get!). She's told a lot of people that she's upset that I'm no longer returning her calls, but with 219 congressmen/women, 53 US senators, 24 Cabinet members, almost 200 “I can’t take a ranting Lunatic phone call every day,” Trump wrote on Truth Social last week.

Trump also recently referred to them as Marjorie “Traitor” Greene and Marjorie Taylor “Brown.” He also said she was “crazy” and “a disgrace” to the Republican Party.

“Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown (green grass turns brown when it starts to rot!) betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned left, did poorly on the pathetic view, and became the RINO we all know she always was,” he added in another post. “Just another fake politician, none other than Rand Paul Jr. (Thomas Massie), who got caught being a full-fledged In Name Only (RINO) Republican!”

The president, meanwhile, signed the bill to release the Epstein files on Wednesday evening after the House and Senate overwhelmingly approved the legislation.

In her video, Green underscored her longstanding loyalty to Trump – except for a few points – and said it was “unfair and wrong” that he attacked her over her disagreement.

Loyalty should be a two-way street and we should be able to vote according to our conscience and represent the interests of our district because our job title is literally representative,” she said.

Greene was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2020. She originally planned to run in a competitive district in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, but then moved to the much more conservative 14th District in the northwest corner of Georgia.
