It's not as common as it used to be to be friends with your neighbors, but many still like to maintain a good relationship.
But for one homeowner, that all went out the window next The door neighbor added a questionable privacy fence to his yard.
Instead of paying the professionals to raise the height of the existing garden fence, the neighbor decided to take matters into his own hands.
The finished product was so bad that the homeowner ranted about it on Reddit — and he wasn't the only one to raise concerns.
In a post on Reddit, they explained that the red fence is theirs, but the questionable-looking wall was recently added by their neighbor.
“I received mixed opinions. Some say it is vulnerable to moisture, others say it is structurally sound and assume they will make it look better,” they explained.
The homeowner further asked for other people's opinions on the matter, adding, “I'm really worried that the structure is terrible and might fall over (I have a child on the way!)”
It's not hard to see why the homeowner is so concerned, since the wall doesn't exactly look structurally sound.
The cement is seeping out of the gaps, the bricks are uneven and there are even huge gaps – not exactly what you want, especially if you're going to have a small child running around.
Other Reddit users were also shocked by the wall, with one commenting: “Who put it up? Bob, the blind builder?”
Someone else thought the best solution for homeowners would be to report the questionable wall to the council.
“Report it to your local council, but expect it to take a long time to resolve,” they commented.
“Be polite and patient with them and try to get a real person to give half a shit… or just shove it in their back yard and deny all knowledge,” they added.
A second urged the homeowner to report it, writing: “Yes you should definitely report this. It’s an absolute farce of a wall.”
And someone else had a different idea: “Just come out on a windy night and give it a good push.”
Meanwhile, someone else joked: “I've never written a brick will in my life, but I'm confident I could do better.”
And another said: “A good fart would ruin that, apart from being uglier than Pat Butcher's earrings he doesn't look anywhere near safe either.”
How to create privacy in your garden
Creating privacy in your garden can be achieved in a variety of ways depending on your budget and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to improve privacy in your garden:
1. Fencing
- Install a tall, solid wood or vinyl fence. This is one of the easiest ways to gain instant privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellises or picket fences to add a decorative touch while providing privacy.
2. Hedges and plants
- Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees such as leylandii, thuja or bamboo along the border of your garden can provide more privacy. Grow a dense hedge with plants such as boxwood, privet or laurel. It may take some time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbing plants like ivy, clematis or wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.
3. Outdoor curtains
- Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos or patios for an easy-to-customize privacy solution.
4. Soundproof walls
- A fountain or small waterfall can help drown out the noise and increase the feeling of privacy. Or install a fence to reduce noise if privacy from noise is also an issue.
