The new Zaanstad judicial office was completed. The large complex was realized by Binx Smartility West and designed by the studio prototype, which was responsible for the integrated design of the building, the interior and the landscape. The Studio prototype worked with Architel Company as a CO Architect for the parametric design of the shifted facade.

In 2022, the Dutch government construction agency awarded the mandate for the draft, construction and maintenance of the judicial complex to the construction and installation company Binx -Ssmartilility. The complex of around 7,650 square meters offers functional and sustainable living space, including office, meeting and training rooms for a department of the Custodial Institutions.

The design of the studio prototype is based on a mainly wooden structure frame. It is the largest CLT (Cross Laminated Tob) that has so far been realized for the Dutch government agency.

Make parametric Lavered
It was important for the customer that the advantages of design could be measured. The studio prototype together with Archech Company, which acted as a CO architect, the parametric facade design and the integrated design team, defined design and performance parameters that were carefully balanced. The slats limit the visibility from the outside and maximize the view and daylight. In this way, the facade contributes to the thermal comfort and the energy efficiency of the building. The complex even generates energy and fulfills Parisian's standards of evidence.

Anchored in the landscape

Security and openness are also carefully compensated for in design. What initially looks as if a closed bastion opens in the area in several ways. Three lights play an outstanding role. They offer a clear structure for the building, which at the same time connect and separate the different functions.

The light dishes also improve access to daylight and contribute to a healthy work environment, while the connection between the building and the surrounding nature reserve strengthens. The design is firmly rooted in the peat polder landscape of Westzaan. According to Studio Prototype, the Nature -Inclusive Layout is based on local flora and fauna and takes into account climate change. The landscape design was carried out by Dijk & Co Landscape Architecture and Donker Group.

The silver -gray facade material reflects the tones of the green river banks next to the complex and milks the transition between the building and nature. The lights and the layered facade, behind which the offices are located, create a protected, green and pleasant work environment.
