No. 1 Equestrian defeated No. 5 Sweet Briar, 7-3

Rustburg, Virginia — The University of Lynchburg equestrian team remains undefeated in NCEA action with today's 7-3 win over Sweet Briar for the team's Code Red on Friday afternoon at the Lynchburg Equestrian Facility.

The nation's top-ranked Hornets improved to five wins this season with today's triumph. Lynchburg also won the MOP Awards Amaya Bellfield Earn the recognition in fences and Abigail Devlin Claim the price in flat form. Both drivers achieved a score of 88.5 in their respective competitions, Bellfield on ten and Devlin on Ollie.

Sweet Briar took an early lead by scoring the first two team points, but Lynchburg fought back by scoring the following three points to take a 3-2 advantage heading into the flat. The Hornets secured a commanding 4-1 lead, including the first three team points, to seal the win.

In fences, Mary Katherine Ragsdale impressed with a score of 84.5 on Motaz Rebecca Collier shone with a score of 83 on Itina. Both earned team points for the team. Although she was one point ahead, Madeline Rubin had an outstanding performance with Archie with a score of 84.

Bellfield continued her MOP performance in the fences with a score of 83 in the flat riding of Caleb. Devyn Borden was close behind with a score of 82 to Balou, while Collier and Abby Zemp scored 72 and 71 respectively with Van Gogh and Eragon.

As the IHSA chapter competes at the Virginia Tech IHSA in Blacksburg, Virginia this weekend, the NCEA team is preparing for a home game against Sewanee next Saturday, November 15th at 11 a.m. To view the full results of today's meeting, click here.
