The outgoing Member of Parliament for Oforikrom Constituency, Dr. Emmanuel Kwabena Marfo, has officially inaugurated a fencing project at Appeadu RC JHS School.
Construction of the fence, which began earlier this year for an undisclosed amount, was completed and put into operation on December 27, 2024.
The main purpose of the fence is to provide security for students, protect school property and improve the overall teaching and learning environment.
In an interview with the media, Dr. Marfo emphasized the importance of providing a safe learning environment for students and teachers.
He noted that many schools are plagued by intruders who engage in illegal activities such as drug use, vandalism and even defecation in classrooms. This disrupts the learning process and hinders students' ability to concentrate on their studies.
Dr. Marfo explained that using a portion of the MPs Common Fund to construct the fence was necessary to address these issues and ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students at Appeadu RC JHS.
“Most unfenced urban schools face significant teaching and learning challenges. Unfortunately, trespassing, drug abuse and other illegal activities, including lewd behavior and vandalism in classrooms, are common in these schools. As a result, students find it difficult to concentrate on their learning Due to constant disruptions from external activities, I felt it was necessary to allocate funds from the MPs Common Fund for the construction of a wall for Appeadu RC JHS. He announced.
The outgoing MP said the initiative to build fences for all government schools in his constituency was part of Oforikrom Municipality's policy to protect school premises from encroachments and improve teaching and learning processes.
“Oforikrom Municipality’s initiative to build fences for all government schools is a key part of our policy. This initiative also aims to protect or secure the school premises from intruders. These efforts will ultimately improve the teaching and learning experience of our schools and…We are creating a more effective and productive environment for our students.”
He pointed out that the fence at Appeadu RC JHS was one of his legacy projects in the constituency.
“As an outgoing MP, I believe this initiative will be remembered as one of my legacy projects in Oforikrom Constituency,” Dr. Marfo.
