“It is basically their version of a real estate crisis, they suffered from habitat loss and these small parks in cities, yes, they accommodate many opossums,” said wildlife biologist Ryan Kassouf.

“But this population is expanding of opossums and there is only anywhere else than in the roofs of the people.”

And while Aussie families may have different methods to “get rid of” the Possum problem on their roof, Ryan insists that they are not actually pests, even if they are loud and problematic.

“They are more like a koala, they are a unique, iconic Australian way and should be treated in this way,” he said.

“The best way to deal with you is to contact a professional opossum trapper like me. We do it human, we do it right.

“We have a duty of care for the opossum and the family.”

And to prevent the problem of an opossum infestation, Ryan advises that people keep pace with their roof maintenance.
