The highly expected Sweetwater Park in the Chula Vista Bayfront is now open to the public after a big celebration took place on April 3.. The opening of this park, part of the Chula Vista Bayfront -Sanoration project, included companions of the port of San Diego, the city student of Chula Vista. This is the 23rd Park of the port and the first new park as part of the Chula Vista Bayfront -Sanoration project. With 39 hectares of new public leisure room, it is the largest park in port today. His unique characteristics promote passive and natural habitat-oriented leisure activities to complement the adjacent National Wildlife Refuge by Sweetwater Marsh.
The design of the Sweetwater Park is a result of joint public relations and engagement with the community. Ktua directed the design efforts for Sweetwater Park in cooperation with the harbor. The landscape architecture company KTUA was selected for its extensive expertise for the city park and in the Waterfront design, with the focus on the local experience of landscape architecture and management for natural resources.
“The new Sweetwater Park is an important project in creating a chula Vista Bayfront for people,” said John McCann, Mayor of Chula Vista, in a press release.
“We are grateful for the partnership with the port of San Diego and for the cooperation between the community in the implementation of Chula Vistas Master Bayfront plan, with which the residents and visitors enable an essential access to enjoy our national habitat for wild animals.”
The deputy chairman of Chula Vista on the board, Ann Moore, said that Sweetwater Park was opened in front of the Gaylord Pacific to show that access to the public and economic development goes hand in hand.
“Projects such as gaylord help to enable parks like this – to create a new space for connection with the best of nature and at the same time protect our habitat for wild animals and the coastal resources.
Danielle Moore, chair of the port of Hafen board, said that Sweetwater Park offers access to a unique and historical area for all residents and visitors to the Bayfront.
“We can hardly wait for the community to research and experience this open space. Every element and every characteristic of this park should highlight the natural habitat and access and offer the appreciation of this country,” she said.
Sweetwater Park is located north of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, which is currently under construction and will be opened in May. The characteristics include natural playgrounds, various seating and picnic areas, 2 ½ miles of pedestrian paths and bicycle paths, some paved and others with softer surfaces, sand dunes and haylands, meadows and special gardens with indigenous plants, shrubs and earth clothing. Some of these local plants serve as ecological buffers and reduction areas to protect sensitive wildlife habitats, especially in the National Wildlife Refuge by Sweetwater Marsh. Overlooked for Bayfront observation, bird observation and more integration of the Kumeyaay signage, aircraft of the flight, a public art installation by Roberto Salas. This 25 foot high sculpture of a Furcula or Wishbone is a tribute to the curse of birds in the area. Public toilets and 219 parking spaces.
