Red Hook, Brooklyn (WABC) – Some residents in Brooklyn can soon say goodbye to a long, hot summer with the reopening of an outdoor pool in the neighborhood.
The Red Hook Pool in Bay Street was reopened on Sunday at 11 a.m. after months of closing for repairs.
Just a few days before it was opened, the Department of Parks in New York City discovered a broken drain pipe for the centuries -old pool. Since then, the crews have been working to carry out the necessary, extensive repairs to prepare the pool for swimmers.
Most outdoor pools in New York City were officially opened on June 27 for the summer season.

According to NYC Parks, the department is currently in the design phase of a 122 million dollar project for renovating the Red Hook Pool and the recreation center. The project includes the reconstruction of the entire pool basin and its supportive components, whereby the construction will probably begin in 2028.
The New York Outdoor pools remain open until Sunday, September 7th.
